The App That Saved Her Life Inspired Her to Build One

"I started playing around with ChatGPT and it really helped calm me. And then I thought — if Eleni can build an app on Lovable, why can't I?"
The Situation
Hermione Way spent 20 years at the top of the technology industry. Head of Communications at Tinder. Hundreds of startup launches. She understood exactly how products were made and what it took to bring them to market.
After the birth of her third son, she developed chronic pain severe enough to bring her to crisis. Weekly NHS therapy was not enough. She found Curable — an American app built around the neuroscience of pain — and it changed everything. She learned about the mind-body connection, about how most physical pain is rooted in stress and trauma, and slowly, she recovered.
An app had saved her life. The question that followed her out of that experience: why wasn't there something like this built specifically for women?
The gap was not the idea. The gap was the build.
What We Did
Service: Idea to Launch — public workshops Format: 2 public workshops · Independent build after Builder: Hermione Way · 1 person · no coding background Product launched: needhelp.website
The existing market — Calm, Headspace, Noom — was well funded and well known. But none of them had been built for what Hermione had been through. When she was at her lowest, what she needed was not generic meditation content. She needed something that understood her context: her location, her stage of life, the specific Wayght of what she was carrying. Real-world recommendations. Community. A companion that remembered her.
Generic was not going to reach the women she wanted to help.
The Build
Before the workshops Hermione had the problem, the insight, and 20 years of product and marketing experience. What she did not have was a way to build without a development team.
The workshops Hermione found Kimolian Academy through Eleni's public workshops at Innovations Lab — sessions she attended twice before going ahead and building independently. In those workshops, Eleni does what she is known for: showing people exactly how to use AI to build real products, with hands-on demonstrations, practical examples, and the kind of insider knowledge that makes the process feel possible rather than intimidating.
Watching it done in real time was the shift. She stopped asking can I do this? and started asking why haven't I started?
After the workshops Using Lovable, Hermione built Help entirely on her own. The app connects women with real-world local resources based on their location — mama and baby groups, local activities, community — alongside AI-powered emotional support calibrated for compassion. It learns from previous conversations to become more relevant over time.
The language, the tone, and the structure of the product all reflect her own experience of recovery. It was built by someone who had needed exactly this.
| Capability built | What participants developed |
|---|---|
| Local resource finder | Connects users with real-world services based on their location |
| AI emotional support | Conversational companion calibrated for compassion |
| Memory across sessions | Learns from previous conversations to become more relevant over time |
| Three core topics | Chronic pain · Anxiety · Depression |
Outcomes
- Built independently — no coding background, no development team
- Three core topics: chronic pain, anxiety, and depression
- Global ambition — built to scale beyond its first market
Why It Matters
The gap was never ability. Hermione had 20 years of product and marketing knowledge. What she did not have was access to the tools that make building possible without a development team behind you.
Two public workshops changed that.
The most significant shift was not a skill. It was the moment she realised that the thing she had been waiting for permission to build — she could build now, herself, with what she already knew.
Help is now live and available to the women who need it most.
